List Comparison Tool
Compare two lists of keywords, URLs, or any text — find what's common, and what's unique to each list.
Each list is limited to 50,000 lines.
What is the List Comparison Tool?
The List Comparison Tool compares two text lists — one item per line — and splits the result into three groups: items present in both lists, items only in List A, and items only in List B. It's commonly used to compare keyword lists between accounts or time periods, find new and lost keywords, or audit which URLs appear in two different exports.
How to use the List Comparison Tool
Paste your first list into List A and your second list into List B, one item per line. Toggle case-sensitive matching and whitespace trimming as needed, then review the three result columns. Each column shows a count, a copyable text box, and a 'Download CSV' button for exporting the results.
Common use cases
Compare this month's keyword list to last month's to spot newly added or removed keywords. Compare a client's current negative keyword list to a recommended list to find gaps. Compare two URL exports to check which pages exist in both a sitemap and Google Search Console. Trim whitespace is recommended for most exports, since trailing spaces from spreadsheets often cause false mismatches.
FAQ
How do I compare two keyword lists?
Paste your first keyword list into List A and your second into List B, one keyword per line. The tool will show which keywords appear in both lists ('Common to both'), which only appear in List A, and which only appear in List B.
What does 'case-sensitive' mean for list comparison?
With case-sensitive matching off (the default), 'Running Shoes' and 'running shoes' are treated as the same item. With it turned on, they're treated as different items — useful when comparing data where capitalization is meaningful, such as URL paths.
Why would I trim whitespace before comparing?
Lists exported from spreadsheets or other tools often contain trailing or leading spaces that make visually identical lines technically different. Trimming whitespace ensures 'running shoes' and 'running shoes ' (with a trailing space) are correctly matched as the same item.
Is there a limit to how many lines I can paste?
Each list (List A and List B) supports up to 50,000 lines. This covers most keyword exports and URL lists; for larger datasets, split the comparison into batches.
Can I export the results?
Yes. Each of the three result columns (Common, Only in A, Only in B) has a 'Download CSV' button that exports that list as a UTF-8 CSV file, as well as a 'Copy' button for pasting directly into a spreadsheet.
